it does and they both work in concert with the aimpoint.

Besides the fact that you get a single dot reticle, the advantage that the Aimpoint has over the Eotech is that it can be left on for 3 to 5 years before you need to change the batteries. An Eotech will drain your batteries in a couple days/weeks. Battery life is a huge factor for me.

A Trijicon RMR will give you the best field of vision because of its slim outer profile . It's also by far the lightest weight. It's very rugged for what it is, but it won't take the beating that an Eotech or Aimpoint will.

i need to get that magpul flip up rear sight for sure. does that rear one go in tandem with the front iron-sight that comes stock?

That's referred to as co-witnessing, meaning you can still see the irons through the Aimpoint.

And yes the MBUS rear sight lines up with a stock A2 gas block.

sweet deal, probably about to order one. magpul's website has them at $57 bucks... searched and really can't find a better deal unless y'all are aware of any.

last note, i'm noticing that the aimpoints are right on the same price point as some of the eotechs i was looking at. and if going eotech means i have to get the circle+dot, i'll prob take the forum advice and find an aimpoint that suits me. thx, y'all. been a pretty helpful thread.

glad as hell this board isn't chock full of people that feel the need to respond with no real answers or sarcastic a-hole moves! uber helpful, y'all.

In the world of AR optics, there are only 3 brands you should even consider buying.

Trijicon, EOTech, and Aimpoint.

Trijicon makes the best ACOG scopes on the market, but they are quite expensive. The ACOG w/ RMR is the most versatile optic for ARs and allows for close and long range switching instantly. These will likely cost more than your rifle, but they are awesome.

EOTech and Aimpoint are both great brands as well, and it comes down to a matter of preference. Do you want a wide field of view with a larger reticle, or a small view with a very precise reticle. I just so happen to prefer EOTechs because of the view and durability. It's all up to the user. Play with some and see what you like.

Good luck, and let us know what you purchase

ETA: frick, I just read the OP. I see AR-15 and respond to the thread no matter what Sounds like Aimpoint is what you want.

Make sure you get some Daniel Defense back up iron sights, and that you are damn good with irons before upgrading to an optic.

That's the best deal going right now. Eotech doesn't offer a single red dot reticle as far as I know, but I've not looked at everything they offer. I'm not a huge Eotech fan. I had an Eotech and I left it on a couple times and each time I picked the rifle up a few days later the batteries were dead. I didn't have that thing more than a month before I sold it.

I got the eotech exps3-2, and it's small and light, but has the circle you don't like.

see... i JUST saw through one of those this past sunday night. it was super badass, but i'm having to convince myself to dig the circle part. i'm sure it would just be getting used to it, but i find it somewhat distracting and it's like it covers a tiny bit of the target, but it was definitely super light and small. i may still end up going with it because it's only marginally more expensive at the local retailer and i get my no hassle return policy for that extra cost.

btw, do you have to order new batteries, or are they easy enough to find in town?

You can get batteries anywhere. Walgreens, Walmart, target, etc.

The circle clutters the sight picture, and for the life of me I can't figure out why you'd need a circle there.

Don't forget, you can leave the Aimpoint on for 3+ years bfore you have to change the battery. One day there's going to be an emergency and you're going to pick that rifle up and need to put a bullet in something. The Aimpoint is already going to be on and ready. The Eotech will be off, so your hands are shaking and you're pressing the "on" button and you're hoping it turns on..

I am about to buy a Leopold VX-R 1x4. Allows up close and a bit of a distance too. I have an Aimpoint on my AK and love it too. Just keep in mind, a lot of the Aimpoints are either 2 or 4 MOA.

MOA = minute of angle. One MOA equals 1 inch at 100 yards. two or four MOA reticle just refers to the size of the red dot. One or two MOA dots are more precise. 4 MOA dot is bigger for fast target acquisition.

re: Want a red dot on my AR-15

That still may not make any sense. If you look through your scope and I'm standing 100 yards away holding a ruler in my hand, a 2 moa red dot will take up 2 inches of my ruler from your point of view. a 4 moa dot will take up 4 inches etc.
