OCS is the new evangel in 1A. They are able to draw kids from all over the area.

They dont recruit...much...the out of parish families you talk about want their kids to go to private school..OCS is the closest one in their area...they are not violating any rules...and theyre far from evangel

I think some people confuse drawing kids from a large area with recruiting. I've heard this a lot about Notre Dame in Crowley. They'll routinely get kids from Rayne, Jennings, even Welsh (LSU has a walk-on from Welsh who played at ND), maybe even Duson. For people in those communities who want to send their kids to Catholic school, Notre Dame is the "local" option.

Ever since Goretti closed in Lake Arthur, Jeff Davis Catholics have been split between Notre Dame and St. Louis in Lake Charles.

That doesn't mean those kids have been "recruited." The notion that a parochial school should only draw kids from the public school zone the parochial school is in is absurd.

Now, if a good football player from a public junior high in Jennings decides to attend high school in Notre Dame, that's when it might be recruiting (it isn't necessarily recruiting though).

Ethically, to me, sometimes recruiting isn't such a terrible thing. For example, if I have kid who's smart and I live in a district that doesn't offer a lot of AP courses while the next district over does, I'm going to try to get my kid into that other school district through any loophole I can find.

Now, can you blame the parent of a good athlete for doing the same for his kid's athletic ambition?

It's a fine line. It's dirty when a school actively seeks players. But I'm OK with it when parents want their kids to go to the best school for their kid and they pursue the school.

I've heard that about the Fitzwater kid at Calvary (although I can't varify it). I've had some folks from Shreveport tell me that Calvary, honest to goodness, doesn't care to try to be another Evangel, but it will try to have a good "system" team. But when a 6-6 strong-armed quarterback from Texas shows up his parents say they want their kid to go to your school, what, are you supposed to tell them 'No you can't come here?"

It's not always black and white.

Except at Catholic, where they are all white except for the few black players they recruit

Just kidding Catholic folks.

Well, I'll say this. They're no Cedar Creek with a freaking carpool from Monroe to Ruston, but they def get kids from Union and Caldwell. "Recruiting" has definitely decreased the last 4 years as Sterlington's program has regressed.

Oh, and OCS holds back a ridiculous amount of kids. For "academic reasons?" For athletic reasons, definitely.
