IF EVERYONE WOULD STOP RESPONDING TO THIS IDIOT TROLL, HE WOULD GO AWAY AND WE COULD FUNCTION BETTER. IT WILL ALSO SAVE YOURSELVES FROM ARGUING WITH A MENTAL MIDGET.

Chelsea should have overloaded the midfield. I don't know why they thought they could get the ball off of Pirlo and Marchisio with a 3-man midfield.

This.

Just watched the match. Holy frick what was RDM thinking?

I don't know enough about Chelsea to say who should have started but a midfield of Azpilicueta, Mikel, and Ramires could not have been the best option for them. I say this as a huge fan of Ramires.

Azpilicueta played on the back. We ran a laggy Mexican Fifa 5 at the back formation and it failed miserably. I like that RDM was thinking outside the box, but at Juve? The team you blew a 2-0 lead on at the Bridge? Our guys clearly weren't comfortable in the tactics. This is where my knowledge dwindles. Do top level teams change tactics weekly based on their opponent, like an NFL team would? Can you make those changes that quickly?

Azpilicueta played much higher than Cole was playing. I don't know if that was tactical or just him doing that.

If it was 5 at the back, then that's even dumber IMO.

You're going to play a 5-2-3 against Andrea freakin Pirlo?

Pirlo and Marchisio were getting the ball with acres of space. Vucinic was wasteful in front of goal but he was smart enough to drop right into the midfield and just pick up the ball as well. When you play Juventus, you have to choke off the midfield or you're going to die.

They don't have anyone who can compete with a dynamic midfielder like Pirlo.

Chelsea is built for counter-attacks and set pieces. They have no possession-based players, no above average ball-playing defenders and no ball-winning midfielders. They don't have a reliable scorer and their defense is as inconsistent as I've seen. They don't seem to have any natural leaders or anyone who can just put the team on their back to get a result like they're so used to having (Lampard, Terry, Drogba). They barely create 10 chances a game in the PL which is well below what other top clubs are creating.

In other words, I'm not sure anything would have worked against Juve today other than clinical scoring.

Overloading the midfield was their best shot at getting a positive result, but more likely that would have exposed them even more. Counter-attacking could have worked as well, but that would require a high level of defensive play.

For the most part, no. Soccer is not nearly as tactically lenient as football is.

I dont see why they would play Hazard, Oscar, and Mata. If their best bet was to hit them on the counter, then you need a striker. Even if Torres sucks, you gotta put someone up there.

No. Torres is fricking terrible.

I've said since day 1 that Hazard, Mata and Oscar should not all play together. Their #1 priority in January has to be a possession minded midfielder.

You play those three together if you plan on dominating the ball. If you're going to be defending and hoping to hit on the counter, you don't need 3 guys who are not going to offer you anything on defense.

I think they're all very good players, but who's getting them the ball? Who's offering width to keep the ball? It doesn't make any sense.

Yep, which we don't even try to do.
