Finally breaking loose to go pull a few off the ledge next week. Haven't been in that area since right after the BP debacle, and wanting to find a place to spend the night. Clean and reasonable-just a few dudes fishing. Cypress Cove? Lighthouse? Any houseboats or cabins or anything like that that would rent for a night? I'm out of touch since it's been so long. For your trouble, a little fishing motivational spot:

Light house is nice but the do not have a place to clean fish. Cypress is a little more money but it has anything you will need. Venice marina has been the only place with live shrimp if you looking for live bait and I would suggest using it. My buddies are down there right now and have been catching nice trout on live shrimp.

+1 on Venice Marina. I have some friends that can rent you a place if you strike out there.

Fishing has been awesome. Haven't missed a limit of trout down there in about three weeks. You can use live bait but it's not really necessary.

Hammer-general help with where or pattern? Have been thinking for weeks that the low river would have them stacked on the ledges right off the main river, but didn't hear about that pattern starting until very recently. Used to catch them in low river stages this time of year anchoring deep and bouncing plastics down the drop-offs. And we never, ever, used live bait this time of year, but seems like even some of the dyed in the wool guides are using stink crickets these days.

I haven't used them live bait that is. The diversion has been very popular, and the spillways have been consistent. Yellow Cotton has been on fire, and it's about as easy as it gets.

I have been fishing either yellow cotton or some of my spots off the river. I am not about to give away my spots on the river as they are hard earned spots over 20-30 years that produce lots of trout and many 4+lbs in the winter. Just fish what you know they trout are in their normal winter time pattern. I'll help anyone out but not going into tons of detail if that makes any sense.

Hotel Cipriani & Palazzo Vendramin. Has a great view and the service is great.

We stayed at Yellow Cotton Bay cabin rentals in June when we went out with Josh Howard. Nice cabin for 6 guys. Will stay there again on our next charter trip with him.

Just getting back to my day dreaming. Damn work. So, are the grass beds back in YCB? There was a time we could go throw over the top and along the edges with Bass Assassins and catch limits of trout, bass and redfish in the same spots. Haven't done that since Katrina and Rita's high water killed off all the grass.
