I guess it will be a one-time situation, because I'm sure there will be some sort of rule put in if it happens. But basically, yeah, UCLA can decide this is a scrimmage against Stanford. Run a few plays, see if you can beat a corner or something, then rest the starters. Stanford will have to play to win, because they're out if they lose. UCLA just needs to decide they can physically play with them (obviously), and then maybe push the score enough that Stanford empties the playbook.

As for the "you play to win the game" thought-

You play for the season. You play for a national title; that's out. Then, if you're UCLA, you play for the Rose Bowl. Seriously. You don't play for the right to face Oregon in the Pac 12 Title game, you play for the right to play AT HOME IN THE GRAND-DADDY OF THEM ALL. Against, maybe, Nebraska, who you already beat.
