If what has been leaked is true, the White House would be screwed if anyone really cared

Good post. I could summarize my definition of "the forest" in this way: I remember Watergate and all those Senate hearings. The President of The United States was forced to resign because of the facts emerging from his involvement, knowledge, and denial of involvement and knowledge in a simple breaking and entering crime. What could or would be the ramifications for our current President to have evidence of his knowledge/involvement in a situation where our ambassador and three other Americans were being killed when evidence and testimony proved this President or his office issued orders to their rescuers to "stand down"? This administration is well aware of the ramifications, imho. Patraeus may not be the only participant thrown under the bus before this is over. But then again, I don't believe anything will come of this. We'll replace the ambassador with someone else and the fate of all four of these dead Americans will be swept aside and relegated to a minor historical footnote unless a modern day "deep throat" and Woodward/Bernstein reporter step up to the plate.

I see your point, but I also believe that he has been told that if he doesn't cooperate and say what he's been told to say, he will be "destroyed". Take it for whatever it's worth. Popular 4 star generals have died before in mysterious car accidents. And that previous sentence is not "just my opinion". It is a fact.

Yes. Patton was also viewed by some to be a "loose cannon".

This is true. He died 12 days later.

Can we now put to bed the false rumor/conspiracy theory that he was ousted to keep him from testifying?

What I've thought (and others) he was ousted because they knew he would testify and are attempting to discredit him.
