Meh,, wasnt impressed to much last year.
IDK if high water had something to do with it that spring/summer, we just didnt see that much... but nonetheless huge place.
They have the deer though.
Big trees.
Lots of history.

Jeff Davis old home is there.
His mothers tombstone is there in this old grave yard.

My mother's "friend" has a camp in the Kellogg Club on Davis Island. There are some really nice camps out there and the main lodge is really sweet. Really good hunting and fishing, but the rules are pretty strict. My mom killed a nice 10 point last year for her first buck. Its a pain in the arse to get out there if you have to get boated in. Definitively take advantage of the trip if you have the opportunity to go.

I hunted there when all you would wee were spikes and small basket racks. We got Harry Jacobson over
to evaluate the herd and start a buck problem. We used a huge net on one end of a coffee bean field and drove it catching a few does and a decent 10 point in velvet. We collard those those and a fellow from Ferriday who will remain anonymous killed the 10 point the following spring. To this day he is called "collar killer". We were told to shoot does and spikes for a couple of years then told to shoot no spikes, only does.

Finally we were allowed to shoot a few does and trophy bucks only. There are some serious brutes on the Island now. Just like Somerset, you better not shoot anything under 140-150.

You can. Just has to fit the criteria. You can even shoot 8s as management deer if over the proper age. It's all about age/tine # and nothing about score.
