In 1969 the Cotton Bowl invited LSU. After the invitation, Notre Dame decided they would change their policy of not playing in bowls and would accept a bowl bid. The Cotton Bowl recinded their invitation to LSU and took Notre Dame. LSU, which had maybe the best team ever, did not go to a bowl because there were no other openings. All the other bowls were filled.
Close, but not quite. LSU never got the invite to the Cotton. It was widely runmored to be LSU, but at the last minute went to ND.
Also, LSU didn't go to any other bowls because the players voted not to go bowling if they couldn't get a chance at Texas and the national championship.
But yeah, Notre Dame ruined what could've been MNC #2 for LSU, I've hated them since as well.
