If they would tone down every SMG's power 2 notches and range 2 notches. The use of SMG's vs Assault Rifle would balance out.
Of course the AR player is going to lose every gun battle vs the SMG player. They have the exact same range and power, but the SMG pumps out about 3 bullets per second faster.
Is this something that can be patched?
I just wished they could maybe add some recoil to the smg. I really hate losing a gun fight from across the map to a guy with a mp7

Absolutely. Guns are some of the most touched up things in a game
You can bet some guns will be nerfed/boosted
I still don't get saying only smg's are useful. I use the m8a1 and hold down various buildings depending on which map I play. I put a Betty down at one entrance and keep a close eye on any other entrances, all the while watching the windows for idiots running around in the open with smg's. easy targets
Plus, with select fire, the m8a1 has about the same fire rate as an smg. My mobility is the only thing holding me back in a close combat situation, in which case I hip fire a lot

maybe, if we are all lucky JMurdah can give us some insight on this....
From what I understand part of the reasoning by removing all the "gun-based" perks and making the attachments act as gun attribute boosts, was that it gave the developers the full control to tweak the damage, range, accuracy, mobility or all the weapons without having these "gun based" perks effect them.
now, i don't know how willing they are to effect the overall gamespeed or gameplay to properly nerf these problems.
