Having watched the SEC get pushed aside all during the 80's with some teams that were very capable - I say frick that. Even if Bama was to win two in a row, at least it keeps the SEC fresh in everybody's mind.
What we don't want, is to have Oregon beat the shite out of Kansas State, everybody to say how much more fun it is to see all offense and slowly but surely convince themselves that the SEC might be better in defense, but is not a brand name nor exciting football. Watched that very thing happen for a good part of my life.
How does that affect LSU? For starters, the big jump in the polls after winning the SEC title game doesn't happen because pollsters stop believing that's as huge a deal as it really is. So LSU doesn't play for the title in 2003 or 2007.

You people that blindly cheer for the SEC are not LSU fans.
An LSU fan wouldn't cheer for the teams competing for the same athletes. Chip Kelly can't use his success to come in to say, Dutchtown and steal a 5* recruit.
Kansas St won't come in and sway a kid from Ruston.
Bama, UF, UGA, and UT can.
We play Bama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, and now aTm every year. Scheduling will never be an issue. SEC schools are our competition.
Cheering for another SEC team makes zero sense.

You don't think that the SEC is still clearly the dominant conference in college football?
6 of the top 9 teams in the week 11 BCS are from the SEC. The past 6 BCS champions and last year's runner up are from the SEC.
I don't think if K-State or Oregon win it all this year anyone will say "the SEC is shitty" or the Pac-12/BigXII is now the dominant conference.
The ONLY team, in this season, that I would pull for to win it all outside of LSU is Georgia. If anyone from the SEC is going to win, I'd rather it be them than f'in Bama. Why anyone would want Bama to win so the media will still love the SEC is beyond me.
