Great thread OP, more effort than I have time for. But this is exactly what I have been trying to make the people I talk to who hate Miles understand.
Regardless of whatever your opinion is of him, his LSU program has been competing at a high level since he took over. Even a bad (by comparison) 2008 season didn't stop him from going out and picking up that 2009 recruting class, which turned out to be one of the best.
There just are not very many coaches out there at any level, who could come in to LSU right now and maintain the program at its current level for as long as he has. He competes against the best in the SEC on an annual basis, and had LSU in the title hunt year in and year out. And for the last several years, when we don't win the SEC it has been because someone from our own division has gone on to win not only the SEC championship, but the national championship as well...
That doesn't mean I like moral victories... but it does mean I am proud of our Tigers, and it does mean I recognize the extreme difficulty of accomplishing what Miles does consistently every year.
With all of the money out there that big time programs spend to pull in the best coach out there, it should tell you something that Miles tenure here at LSU ranks right up there with some of the all-time greats.
