If we can finish off this season strong, I think next year is very promising

We have gotten better and better each week this season, culminating in a tough loss, but one in which our Tigers, for the most part answered a tough challenge.

Looking back at this game, and the season thus far, even after unloading a pair of DE's and a Safety in the 1st round of the upcoming NFL Draft, this team is returning a lion share of the individuals that stepped up to the plate in this past Saturday's game.

The fact that Vadal Alexander and Trai Tuner are Freshman and already look to be as good of a right side of the OL as any in the conference is down right pre-cum leakage.

Add to it Mett's progression and the Offensive Coaching staff's increasing confidence in him and the growing chemistry between them and our WR core who stepped up big time against Alabama, and, who all will be back next year makes for an exciting 2/3's of an offensive unit.

Jeremy Hill is getting better and better each year, and, I think will grow as he gains a full year in Moffit's program. Ford, Ware, and Hilliard are all still battling and settling in their supporting roles of what seems to be one of our better RB's in recent years.

Which finally leads to our defense. Our young DB's also seem to be getting better with valuable snaps in crucial times in big games. I don't think we have much to worry about on this side of the ball, especially with our new found youth and talent at the LB position and their penchant for flying around and finding the ball. We will more than likely need to have a few guys step up at end and DT, but, DL hasn't been a concern at LSU regardless of the NFL Draft for several years.

tl;dr but, here's to finishing our the season strong on the backs of a bunch of young guys who are steadily improving and showing that the future is once again bright at LSU. And, as always, it's great to be a Tiger!

That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury Signifying nothing.

I agree. A lot is going to depend on who comes back. We know Mingo and Montgomery are gone. A huge factor toward our success next year will be the ability of Rasco, Hunter, Maclin, and Allen to take absolutely huge strides over the offseason. We'll need some FR to provide some depth as well.

Also, we need a newcomer to step up and take the #1 WR job. God bless the guys who played their asses off Saturday night, none of them have the God-given talent to really be gamechangera. We need that.

I also think we need 2/3 of Minter, Reid, or Logan to come back. Not only are they great players, but they appear to be the leaders on that side of the ball.

I know we usually reload at DT, but I've been surprised by how little rotation we've gotten there this year. What happened to Quinn Thomas? Mickey Johnson? For that matter, Freak has been somewhat of a disappointment. Ego hasn't some much. If Logan leaves--which he very well might since he's 4th-year JR, along with the departure of M&M, we might have the worst DL we've had in several years. Will have to rely on so.e very young and I experienced guys. They will be talented,.though.

Reid is graduating early and with his niggling injuries (and what everyone saw happen to Lattimore) he knows how quickly a big payday can turn into lifelong agony with nothing to show for it. He is gone.

Love to see Logan and/or Minter back, but I don't think it happens. Especially with how Minter is playing. That said, the lionbackers in the coming years can be a strength. The staff loaded up nicely in recruiting them the past two years.

Minter would benefit tremendously by waiting another year to leave. Obviously he could leave after this year and still get drafted in the top 2 or 3 rounds and have a great NFL career, but he could be THE best returning linebacker in the country next year and be a sure fire 1st rounder. JMO

wrong sentiment - just because it has tomorrow in it and is a famous soliloquy doesn't make it relevant.

What could be more relevant is

"Beseech you, sir, be merry. You have cause / So have we all, of joy; for our escape is much beyond our loss" Tempest

Gonzalo gives voice to the idea that, despite the (seeming) loss of the ship, the survivors can uncover something even greater.

The only sure losses on this defense are Logan Lavar Edwards. Everyone else is underclass...and Aghayere, but he hasn't played significant snaps so far.

I am betting either Sam, Mingo or both come back in Dorsey-like fashion. Minter def sticks around. ILB is deep with Mosley, Mahtook, Teo, and Johnson and that position is traditionally 2nd round at the earliest unless you come across a Ray Lewis type of prospect.

Reid is in the same boat...the three highest projected guys: Reid, Mingo, and Montgomery, are all of the highest character. I see most starters coming back next year (at least 8)...maybe that is just me being optimistic, but I see it playing out that way.

When is the last time a guy of that character level, left LSU after 3 years? Furthermore, 3-4 of them?

Bennie Logan is also only a Junior eligibility wise.

If you are gonna be that optimistic, might as well throw him in there.

You mean not your sentiment.

I'm not as disposed to a positive outlook as some on this very fine board. Not to say LSU will turn into a bad team in the near future, rather that we seem to be on a track to remain a perennial woulda-coulda-shoulda.

I used it as a bleaker version of 'there's always next year'.

Reid has made it known that he wants to go pro if he has his degree. He is set to graduate this year and has a kid, I don't see him sticking around for the hell of it.

Sam has been alluding all year to how he is going pro. After the Bama game, he said "it's up to the younger guys to beat them next year". He also already came back after being projected a first round pick last year. He will be a top 15-20 pick at the latest. You don't return to school twice with that lofty of a grade.

Mingo has been thrown around top 5 overall player. In my opinion, he needs to come back another year just to be physically ready for the NFL, however, when you're a top 5-10 pick, you leave and get paid and spend a year developing in the NFL.

Minter is having a lights out year and will have a hard time replicating his statistical output if he returns. For that reason, he will probably turn pro due to being an undersized MLB on the next level. No reason to come back and risk losing draft status.

It really has nothing to do with being "high character" guy. With the way injuries have riddled players careers, especially those who return to college (Dorsey), players want to get to the NFL while they can before a serious injury takes place.

There are also more priorities to these kids than playing games for our entertainment. If they feel like they have a legit shot to be drafted high and chase their professional dream, they are gonna take it. In this instance, the kids you named all have that shot and should take it.

Mingo and Montgomery came back THIS year. They have been here for 4. They will not be back. Zero chance. Might as well come to terms with it.

Logan isn't a SR either, btw. He is a 4th-year JR like the other 2, so he might leave early as well. Though without the hype and the dominating season, he is much more likely to stay. I'd say it's about 50/50 for him.

Your argument that MLBs don't go very high is actually and argument for Minter to go IMHO. He's not going to get any taller between this April and next. And he can't possibly have a better season you wouldn't think. Might as well start getting paid and get closer to that 2nd contract. But I hope to God he decides to come back.
