The Only Difference Between Miles And Saban Is A Mulligan

For the morons: TL:DR.
Funny how things change in a year.
One year ago, it was Bama fans pissed off at the mighty Saban for losing "The Game of the Century" AT HOME to LSU. Bama fans were going insane over the fact that their "genius" coach, for the second year in a row, lost to that moron from Baton Rouge. After all, Bama had dominated the game. They had 50 more yards of offense, had the ball in the red zone once, and dominated TOP by four to five minutes. What cost them the game? Costly decisions to kick long FGs instead of going for it or punting, along with a trick play that backfired.
But then there was hope! See, Alabama has history! They are a Tier One/Media Darling program that had won 2 NCs since the days of the Bear 40 years ago. The CFB media was bound and determined to right what was wrong for one of their darlings. After all, Bama was clearly the better team despite the fact that they couldn't win the most important game on their schedule, AT HOME. Since week one against Oregon, they just knew LSU was going to eventually lose. Forget LSU and the fact that they were running one of the toughest gauntlents in the history of the sport...no no, the mighty genius Nick Saban needed a do over, because, you know, that's what awesome coaches do and the media had to be proven right.
Well, we all know what happened next. History was made. The genius brought the team with weakest resume in the history of the BCSNCG and exacted his revenge on the Moron from Baton Rouge. All was right in the world. Saban was now 3-3 agains the fool out west and, more importantly, stole his title, along with the greatest season in the history of the sport. All hail the genius.
Fast forward one year, and here we are again. In 2012, the roles are reversed. 2012 LSU/Bama witnessed a domination in the regular season game like none before. The genius Saban watched as the Moron's team's QB nearly put up LSU's first 300yard passing game in years. The genius watched as the moron trotted out a Freshman RB that racked up over 100 yards. The genius watched as his "unbeatable" team blew an 11 point lead, while his offense went 3 and out on every possession except for 2 in the second half. Then, as fate would have it, the genius watched as the "moron" went into prevent defense and "handed" him the game.
Now, it is LSU's turn to do what we do best: Eat our own. One year later, we are pissed at our coach for the same reasons Gumps were pissed at the Genius a year ago: We did too many stupid things with the FG team, and failed on a trick play.
The difference? LSU won't get a second chance. Ask Bama fans or this Bama team if they want to play LSU again this year.
Look, I'm all for bashing Miles. I've done it here before plenty of times, but if Saban is the best coach in college football, then Miles is a close second. The only thing separating them is an uprecedented Mulligan. I'm sorry there are a lot of you here who can't see this.
Thank you, Les Miles for the job you've done this year. The fact that we should have beaten Bama with two FRESHMAN Olineman (and an overhauled line) several FRESHMAN DBs (who shut down Bama's vaunted O) and several FRESHMAN LBs who are getting better speaks wonders. It also demolishes another one of the standard Rantard "facts" that Miles only plays Seniors or Jr.
If you need more comparisons how close these coaches are, examine all of the regular season matchups.
2007 - LSU won. Who cares, right?
2008 - The Genius had an unbeated SEC Championship quality team that needed OT to beat a Freshman QB that threw FOUR picks, including a Pick 6. LSU ran all over the genius' unbeatable defense.
2009 - The Genius needed several obvious terrible calls to win this one, along with having LSU trotting out it's second string QB, RB and DBs in the 4th quarter....all the while having a lead.
2010 - LSU won. Who cares?
2011 - LSU won "the game of the century that didn't count". Who cares? The Genius got the mulligan and won.
I could go on and on. Those of you who don't like Miles are going to be miserable. "Enjoy" your time as tiger fans the next several years.
As for me, I was damned entertained Saturday night. I wonder how the announcers were handling their beloved darling damn near getting beat. I bet they were terrified of the prospects.
Were they setting up another Mulligan just in case? God knows the "genius" almost needed another one.

I am with you! Geaux Tigers!

You're right, however, because it was Saban, again, we look like second fiddle douches. Bottom line- the media is talking about signature Heisman and NC moments. A few throw in a jab about how our coaching cost us. When coupled with the idiocy of the Flynn to Byrd play and the clock management, it adds to his "moron" and "they win in spite of their coach" legacy. I was okay SATURDAY night. Here we are in a Monday, and I cannot get this game out of my head. I went to bed and woke up thinking about it. It's sad to say I'metting a football game affect me this much. I owe it to screwed up priorities and CLM.

Didn't you hear Verne literally scream "TOUCHDOWN ALABAMA!" His excitement was evident, just as his disappointment was evident last year when we intercepted and he yelled "OH NO!".

On the head to head matchup, you are right. Miles and Saban have gone toe to toe pretty much. I think the biggest difference, if there is one, is that if Saban wins another BCS championship this year that count will be 4-1 in Saban's favor and 3-0 since Miles won his.
The comparison is not complete if you are just looking at the handful of head to head games.
Miles is a great coach though, so the comparisons are kind of silly. Who else do you really want to get?

As was I. LSU fought tooth and nail, and it was great.
Hopefully this last 0-2 performance for the prevent defense will relegate it to history for all time in the state of Louisiana. I don't mind if other teams use it, just not LSU or the Saints. Obama knows we've seen too much of it.

You're STILL butthurt about 1/9? Christ man, move on.

LSU 6
Florida 14
That's the major difference at the moment.
That and 3+ additional undefeated teams this season.
Alabama got lucky in 2011 to sneak back into the title game.
LSU got RIDICULOUSLY lucky in 2007 to sneak back into the title game.
The thing with getting lucky is, it normally doesn't happen, that's why it's called getting lucky.

Ah, there you are.. I see your obsession still has a firm grip on you!

The difference between Saban and Miles is how they play other SEC Teams. Bama brings their A game to every SEC game. The loss that hurts is really Florida and Aurburn almost beat LSU. MSU and Arky will not be a walk in the park, but Bama handled them with ease.

Great post. I completely agree.

I'm never for "bashing" the very most successful HC LSU has ever had. It's a college/SEC football mentally challenged thing to do. imo
That doesn't mean I agree with all his decisions, it just means that end of the day I can look at his career at LSU, past and present, and say..."that guy gave/is giving me the best period of LSU football success that I have ever known".
I'm very proud of what LSU football has become under LM and it's pretty sweet to finally have LSU seen as a Top 5 program nationally...which is something I've never seen before in my lifetime as an LSU fan.
As to Nick, great college coach. I'm just happy that when he decided LSU football wasn't good enough for him anymore, we were able to find one who would turn out, to this point in time, to be even more successful at LSU than Nick.

I don't really count the game from Saban's first year (at Bama obviously). He wasn't remotely playing with his team. Bama was coming off of some rough seasons.
