Holtz coached at Arkansas from '77 to '83 in the Southwest Conference days. At Notre Dame from '86 to '96 he went 100-30-2 and won the '88 National Ship. Returned to the South at USCe '99 to'04 and had USCe return to a measure of respectability. Has had programs sanctioned with probation and loss of scholarships.
Holtz is a master motivational speaker and I think the reason his legacy is most closely tied with ND is b/c he looks like their mascot. Used to think Holtz disliked the SEC as by his stadards he'd failed at USCe, but now I think it's part of the ESPN schtick to generate controversy. Like it or not, he does have some insightful commentary.
Mark May keeps Holtz in line and the most entertaining part of College Game Day for me is to see Mark May tear Holtz a new one.
I don't think Holtz hates LSU any more than say UT or Georgia. It's all part of the job to be both entertaining and controversial. Hell, got me to spend a few minutes pontificating on him. All in all, I think he's good in the assingment ESPN has given him. His opinions are worth exactly what you've paid for them.
He'll pick Bama tomorrow, matters not a whit to the games outcome.
