Why is it a fail? It is documented that since LSU installed counters, Tiger Stadium has never actually had 90,000 people in the stadium. Will there be this Saturday?? I say yes
I suspect that these scanners are missing more than the max. 1000 that they think they might miss per game. How would they know anyway?

You could have manual clickers at a couple of gates and compare to the digital count.

They have to be off with their "1000 max missed". Maybe one of the scanners is broken so we're always off by about 2000. Or maybe the batteries die towards the end and people who show up after kickoff don't get counted. How do they even know what the maximum number of missed scans is? If they missed them then how can they count them? I don't care what that link says, I believe that there has been over 90k at least once per season since 2007. Just because you read it on the internet doesn't mean that its true.
And while we're on the subject, aren't all big games like this usually sold out? If the number that gets announced is only paid attendance and not actual attendance, how does that number always change if the games are all sold out? Did the ticket printer run out of ink? I thought that a "sellout" meant that every available ticket was sold. WTF? Does this count the "free" tickets that weren't paid for (ie. Recruits, Players' families, etc.)?
