The assassins and the templars exist outside of established nations/groups. The Templars make use of existing hierarchies (Vatican/British Empire) to further their stated goals but they definitely do not support them. Assassins are the same way, they represent their ideals which happens to coincide with the Colonists.

The game tries to be ambiguous as you can see there are vices and virtues tied to each group. Ultimately the game comes to down to something entirely unrelated.

Yeah I kind of scoffed when Lee blurted that one out, he didn't even manage to make good on that little promise either. Hickey did the same thing as Haytham, talk about a death prattle.

Speaking of joining the assassins, how pissed were the guys in the past who had to cut off their own fingers to fit the blades. Here comes Connor who gets a training montage and voila gets to be an assassin with all fingers attached (unless I missed something).
