I'm really surprised the lack of love Chinatown is getting so far in this thread.

I've always considered it a pretty overrated movie, so not too surprised. I'd say Freauxzen leaving off Godfather would be more surprising, particularly since he made a comment about not having crappy movies make up the top 20 for the 70s. Then he goes and leaves off two movies pretty much universally considered top 20 period, much less 70s.

I'm kinda surprised by the love for Aguirre: Wrath of God. It's definitely a movie that has some interesting moments and a great performance from Kinski, but it's a pretty uneven film to me, and not one I could see as the top 10 of the 70s.

Agreed.

You don't know me well enough yet. I'm sure some weren't surprised at all.

1) What crappy movies made my Top 20?

2) Honestly, I don't think the Godfather films are that great overall. They are missing key elements to me. If I were solely basing this on "technical and artistic accomplishment," they probably would. But it's about more than that.

We've hashed this argument out on here before, so no need to repeat or ruin the thread. In short, Godfather lacks a soul, completely, and that makes it really hard for me to like it.
