I like Gold, he's the best character on the show.
I also never really viewed him as evil either. He gives people what they badly "want" and they have to give up something huge for it. Then he just wants his payment even if it doesn't really mean anything to him, he wants what is his. It's not like he's trying to really screw people over, outside of whoever hurt his son. He does go overboard to protect his son though like turning that one guy into a bug and squishing him.
