Our coaches need to develop/recruit better receivers

And that is something that should scare the hell out of any LSU fan. What top notch recevier would ever want to come here and play in this 1970 offense and get thrown 1 maybe 2 passes a game if lucky. Hate to say it but this will start affecting offense recruiting before long, if it isnt already.

From a realistic point of view, you guys may be right, but what the hell does it matter? Anyone talking about Les Miles might as well stop because be isn't leaving. Accept it. There is a great likelihood that he will retire at the HC at LSU when he wants. None of this incessant whining will do anything about that, and that's the bottom line. The guy is one percentage point from Urban Meyer's record winning percentage in the SEC. That doesn't get you fired ANYWHERE.

It's all very simple, really. We had really good offenses until Jimbo left. It lasted one more year into 07, thanks to the fact that there were a lot of really well trained and smart juniors and seniors, a couple of whom were great leaders as well, on offense that kept things rolling. The cracks started showing up in 08, and it all fell apart in 09. Again, there is no mystery here. Three years of good offense followed by struggles. At whatever level Miles is personally involved, it is clear that the ability of the rest of the staff still has a big impact.

I gave Miles credit before last season for taking some action to help our QBs, hiring an OC that has a rep for working with them. It isn't his or anyone else's fault the way that turned out. And the timing of it forced a snap decision on naming a replacement. Where Miles screwed up is in keeping Studs in that role for this season, when it was clear how much he was outclassed in the BCSNCG.

Studs looked competent for most of last year because we had a dominant line and a true playmaker at WR. It is clear that he is WAY, WAY out of his depth now. A better OC would be able to use creativity and matchups to help cover our decencies in pass protection and at WR, but Studs just isn't up to it. He just puts us in max protect with two average WRs running basic routes. That won't work against anyone. Add in the QB and the lack of just basic offensive chemistry, and here we are.

So, it's a combination of things. I hope Miles will see this and make the call after the season. Keeping Kragthorpe is fine, as long as a we get a real OC, in the Jim McElwain style. Someone who knows power football, but can supplement it with a real passing game. Whine about this all you want. Stop wasting your time complaining about Miles. That's the stupidest thing happening in this thread. Nothing any of us ever says or does will EVER affect his job status.
