Could Nick Swisher be an option for them?
I really doubt it. He's 32 and looking for a Jayson Werth type contract.
Looking at the FA list, it doesn't look like there's much to choose from. I wonder what kind of contract Delmon Young will get. There are a LOT of over the hill FA's this year.

Not a bad thing IMO.
I think these youngsters could use some veteran presence on the team.

I think they should go after 1 maybe 2 veterans that do not cost too much in Free Agency. They've had high picks in draft last few years that have not developed the way they wanted. If I was Astros I'd go after the number 1 pitching prospect in draft from college (not high school), get a veteran solid 15 game winner in free agency, then a solid veteran for the younger talent to have as leader. Not Nick Swisher!!!
Berkman is a good pick- Brings leadership, he is from area and coming off injury so should be pretty cheap and possibly sign to a mid-size contract and 2-3 years so he can retire an Astro.
Mike Fontenot would not be too expensive either. Veteran leadership once again but struggles with consistency. James Shields from Tampa might be a good long term invetment for rotation. Astros being a contender is about 2-5 years away at this point depending on how draft picks develop. Hopefully they stay away from Roy Oswalt and Wolf though I can see them looking at both.
