Just saw on ESPN.

our kicker at my HS nailed a 56 yard field goal... full ride to college, couldnt kick off the ground... pulled the scholarship

Martín Gramática was said to be able to hit a 70 yarder in practice when he was at K-State. He even lined up for a FG around the 50 in the Big 12 title game when A&M beat them in 98 but a penalty moved them back 5 yards and they went for a Hail Mary instead.

a kid i played soccer with in my early teen years ended up kicking a 61 yarder... he ended kicking off for bama our freshmen year and sophomore years. he got a sec champ ring in 99 for it, still a little jelly about it.

The reason you hear about some high school kicker every year hitting a 60 plus field goal is because most of these guys kick a slick, pumped up football for kickoffs and field goals and punts. Then they get to college and use a real game-ball and can barely make a 40 yarder.
