The last time I attended an LSU at A&M game I remember you could not walk on the grass. Is that still the case when you are walking to the stadium? I remember the cadets getting really upset with partying LSU fans about this.

You still can't. It's part of their tradition to honor fallen soldiers.

Wait, you can't walk on ANY grass, ANYWHERE on campus? Or is there some sacred swath?

I thought it was just a certain 20x20 square in front of some building that this was for..it was my understanding that it's not the WHOLE campus.

Seriously though... I thought they were just talking about a particular portion of grass, not ALL grass.

Someone please clarify this. I love grass and its characteristics.

It's just around the Memorial Student Center. Also, if you go in take off your hat.

The grass at the Memorial Student Center is the area you can't walk on. They SHOULD ask nicely to get off. Some are over the top and for that I apologize in advance.but please don't be an arse and tromp on it for the hell of it.

Here is the subject I put out on the SEC Rant on this topic, hope this helps! It really only applies to a very small area of grass outside of the MSC that is no more than a few hundred square feet. Here was my post:

I know how you guys love to give Aggies a rough time about walking on the grass. I remember when I was in school Tiger fans would run around on it intentionally just to be assholes or simply out of ignorance (more likely). I am just hoping that tradition can stop.

The MSC (Memorial Student Center) grass is forbidden for anyone to walk on and hats are asked to be removed when entering the building. This is because the building is first and foremost a memorial to Aggies that died in combat fighting for all of our freedoms. More specifically the MSC houses all 7 Congressional Medals of Honor that Aggies have been awarded, walking down the hall and reading the plaques of what those men did is a truly humbling experience. We ask that you not walk on the grass or wear hats in the building to honor those men, not just out of tradition. If you do not do so you can expect to be accosted because many, many Aggies look at doing so as the equivalent of going to Arlington and disrespecting the place or burning an American flag. My father is one of them, he served 3 Tours in Vietnam and had many of his classmates that never came home and he looks at the MSC as a memorial to them. I realize that may not make sense to you but that doesn't change the reality of it.

So feel free to make fun of Aggies for being weird or gay or whatever. Yell "Tiger Bait" at us if you like or take a picture by the 12th Man statue with a stuffed tiger eating E King Gill. Just please don't walk on the MSC grass because those men died for all of us. We can hate each other as fans of our teams but in the end we are all Americans.

I'm looking at a satellite photo of the area around the student center....

the drill field is to one side (north) ...and a park off to the west side...from what i can see from the pictures, the park is where people should stay on the sidewalk?

their website just says the grass around the student center...sure doesn't look like a lot of grass to me if you look at a satellite photo (unless you're talking about the drill field and area to the west of the student center)

Your dad sounds like a brave man. Very crazy time in our history, and the least we can do is show respect for what this area represents

Nope, just the grass immediately adjacent to the MSC, it really isn't that much. The drill field is free game for grazing but no alcohol or tailgating allowed on it except with specific permission.

Went to school there for a year. It's just the grass in front of and around the side of the memorial building. The cadets have the right to physically remove you from the grass if you are on it. The rest of the grass on campus is fair game

No, they don't.

They will want to remove you, but I never remember when I was in the Corps anyone giving us 'permission' and they aren't LEO, so.. yeah, they don't.

Simpson Drill Field to the north is a tailgating field and so is the park to the left.

It's just a small amount of grass that touches the building.

I've never known why this myth took off to the magnitude it did. We've tailgated all over the grass on campus for a long damn time.

There is no way they are allowed to place a finger on you for walking there.

Good post, and I didn't know the reasons for the request. I told a few aggies I was going to roll around in it and take a patch home as a souvenir just to mess with them, but I had no intention of walking on it, as to respect their tradition. Now that I know what it is all about, I will actually have a reason to call out anyone who does and an explanation for them.

I'm sure somebody has asked but can miles eat the grass to pay tribute. Of course I'm only joking.

I like the idea of the tradition for fallen soldiers and if I see an lsu fan on the grass I will try to remove them or educate them.
