You should always pay taxes in the state where the work was done. I used to work for a firm where I had clients in both MS and LA. I had a W-2 for each state. I got credit on my LA income tax for MS taxes paid just as everyone else said.

Does maryland not have state income tax?

They do but so does Virginia.

Apologies for giving incorrect information earlier. I made a presumption based on my experience in Maryland and Virginia.
