Got a new perspective on the LSU/SC game

I was stuck working last night while the game was going on. There was a tv near me that I kept going back and forth to check, so I knew somewhat was going on. I knew how the back and forth scoring went, but I wasn't aware of every detail.
I watched the game today an entirely different way. No alcohol and no emotions involved (since I knew even when the bad things happened LSU would still win), and it gave a totally different outlook.
Here's what I took from it:
- mettenberger isn't nearly as bad as he is made out to be. He made good throws and good decisions on the vast majority of plays. If he has time he can go through his reads and find the open guy. He's not as great as we hoped, but this offense doesn't allow for a qb to throw for 350 and 3 TD's....just not gunna happen.
- Our O-line stepped up BIG TIME. The run blocking was great all game. And the pass blocking was much improved. They did this against one of the best D-lines in the country. They didn't completely shut them down, but they held them in check.
- We have a hell of a RB corps. Ford is amazing at turning the corner. Plenty of times he looked like he was dead in the back field only to blow by and hit the corner for a 5 yard gain. Ware doesn't go down after initial contact. Hilliard is another great power guy. Hill looks to be the total package.
- Our defense is the best in the country when our offense can give them breaks. We did to SC what Florida did to us...wear down their defense and pound them in the 4th. That's when les miles football works its best.
- our play calling on that first drive was beautiful. They had a little bit of everything mixed it. Nothing was too predictable.
Playing like we did last night running the table will be very hard, but it's a real possibility.

I wish I was at the game. I'm sure it was fricking awesome.
Watching it knowing the outcome made me look at it in a different way. Put the outcome of the first drive (only 3 instead of 7), the Mett interception, and other bad plays into a different light. Instead of bitching about Mett, Miles, the play calling, why so and so isn't playing it made it make more sense.

I agree with everything.
I think the coaches made strides to change up the offensive plays, but it's just hard to make effective against a good SC defense.

Amen! I was there, and I saw the same thing! Plus an energized Tiger fan base.....Now, let's get this thing DONE!

I really hope we win the west and get another shot at Florida in the sec championship. LSU dominated the majority of that game. If we get the chance to play them again at the end of the year we win by +14.

Nice post, and right on about us doing SC like Fla did to us. Time of possession was about 38-22 minutes in both games... Obviously in the gators favor last week but in the tigers favor last night. Very hard to win when the D can't get a breather.
Partial hijack, but will LSU travel to SC next year? Do we know yet with the schedules being shuffled after the conference expansion?

You get to drink at work?

Where did I say I was drinking at work? I said "no alcohol" I believe.

quote:I took "different" and "no alcohol" and inferred what was different before was the alcohol - that you were drinking when watching the game (as was I) and you weren't the second time around. Thus the "different".

Where'd I goof up?

I agree with everything except your assessment of Mett. He isn't a total disaster, but he doesn't look comfortable or confident yet.
In the 4th quarter, South Carolina was defending the pass with two corners and one safety. That is IT. Even an average QB would have shredded them.
I don't know why, but he is not settling in yet. Let's hope he finds his game sooner rather than later.
