Because the deep ball would really soften the USC Front 7 if they would.

simplistic at best....how do you throw the deep ball when your oline and backs can't hold their blocks? our tackle (whomever that is) will need help with Clowney and I think Ware or Hill in the slot could help to slow him down by running pop and go's and by running traps right at him. our smurf receivers must get separation and our bigs will have to exploit the soft sideline spot between the CB and S.

I wish that we would drop back, or roll the pocket, or give him a pistol deep drop...

yeah...and I wish that Mett had the feet to accomplish all of this. the clowns on this board who clamored against having a dual threat qb have gotten their wish. Mett reminds me a lot of JL. he can be highly effective when he has a perfect pocket to work from....he is a disaster waiting to happen when he doesn't.

It's time to be bold and do what it takes to make your gameplan and philosophy work.

I couldn't agree more...but deep balls will only be effective if we soften them up with quick three step outs, slants and drags to our backs and please get our TE's involved.

C'mon, Les! Take your foot off the brakes!

more like put your foot up your olines arse! they respond....we win.

Dude, it takes better footwork to hit a 3 & 5 step drop pass than it does to take a simple drop from the shotgun or a half-drop from the Pistol. Not sure where you are on that one.

Oh, and if I might backtrack...

I think you hit on the answer. You run at him, screen him and swing passes over him on WELL EXECUTED cut-blocks. Then you PA-pass at him.

Better yet, you run some shotgun draws right past him on the upfield rush. Using the same look you can also hit the stick or seam to the TE off the fake-draw.

You can use the personnel the same no matter where you line the QB up at and have credible runs designed to take advantage of their best player.
