Just got home, here is the story a . . . if one of those other 2 deer that came in was my 11 point i will be relieved i didnt take that 6 point and spook him in the process.

This is why I've said some of my best hunts were those where I didn't kill a thing. You'll likely feel that way about this one someday. Especially if you find out that the stud 8 or 11 pt were standing underneath you in the dark.

CSB! Good decision on not shooting a deer that you weren't sure about. This is my first year, and I haven't even seent a deer yet, and I'm just waiting on that feeling! Good luck this evening bro!

Just curious how the binocs would have helped you on the shot if you couldn't see through your sight? Just a better eyeball of the general area of the shot?

A similar situation happened to me last week, but with hogs. I was about to get down, but 20 hogs came running in to feed about 7:30. I kept drawing back trying to get a bead on them but was too dark to see through the sight. Said frick it, they're hogs and flung one down on the largest object I could see. Found the next day alive and turns out I hit midway back above the guts. Stuck him with two more lethal arrows while chasing him safari style. 100-125 lbs.

That was my first bow kill and will probably not take a shot like that again. Too much uncertainty and potential loss of arrow/broadhead.

if you ever get to a point where you are not shaking, or at least very excited drawing back (even on a doe), then just quit huhnting! Sounds like an awesome hunt.

Binos would have helped because when deer first came in it was just dark enough where i couldnt see enough detail with the naked eye about his antlers and assumed 4 pt. and at that time for about 2mins i had very clear and easy shot on the deer and could see pins, deer, and all. Just assumed 4pt bc couldnt make out head. Once it got 5yards closer it was also 5min darker and i couldnt see the deer. Nothing could have helped then but a scope ha. Thts all i meant by binos is i woulda known from moment he came in what he was and could have took the earlier shot.

I am back out. Changed locations. Hunting some "urban" land that they want to thin the herd some. Not sure i like it. Its not like being in the "woods". We will see.
