ND had a much tougher schedule and beat better teams its really that simple.
Gotta love the hypocrisy of bitching and downplaying all of Alabama's titles while acting like Alabama fans are stupid for even bringing 1977 up. How dare a fanbase suggest they have a claim on a year where they had a better record against common opponents and destroyed their bowl opponent as the #3 team when #1 and #2 lost. "But, but, but Notre Dame had a tougher schedule...forget the fact that they got housed by a team Alabama blew out.....

Alabama fans griping about hypocrisy and getting screwed is rich.
Oh and Notre Dame lost to Ole Miss by 7, that's hardly getting housed :
