Okra and tomatoes- need help please :) TIA

Any tips on how to cook fresh okra and tomatoes without the slime??

This is how i do okra for gumbo, without slime. May differ for okra and tomatoes, though.

I dice up a couple of pieces of bacon and render it down. Throw in okra and onion and cook till the slime is gone then add tomatoes reduce to simmer.
