Start getting into the Zimmerman shite at that point but you're not obligated to just let them take your shite. But if they run, and you shoot, you're going to jail.

I always figured that doing anything other than hiding and calling the cops would land you jail time. Glad to know that is not the case.

Be armed. Confront. He runs fine, let him run. If He approaches you & u have a reasonable fear for ur life and if the perp has a means, intent & ability to harm u then you can use deadly force.
I am not a lawyer and I think this this close to accurate.
Dawg23 can get it much clearer.

Basically, if they don't cross the plane of your domicile/vehicle/or make it obvious they're a serious threat to your life/grievous bodily harm or someone else's, don't shoot them.
There may be some weird situations that you can twist it to look like that, but yeah, you're gonna be sued to death for it if you're lucky enough to avoid prosecution.

Not in Texas anymore. In my shooting, the dudes were in the street in front of my house (not even on my property). Cops just shrugged and said "oh well." Heck, the turds didn't even have any of my property...they had my neighbor's property. I didn't go to Grand Jury, heck, they didn't even take my gun.
Here's where a store clerk shot a beer thief in the back outside the store. No arrest.

Again, didn't even go to the Grand Jury...that's just a line they give the media to get them to shut up and and go away.
Dude tries to run off with a taco stand's tip jar, the owner shoots him in the back with a .357 and kills him.

Absolutely nothing happened to the shooter. Totally legal.
And there's no civil issues either because they can't get anything anymore. An attorney will require the perp's family to put up at least $20-30K cash up front before even trying to pursue the case.
Here's a good story about how Texas citizens have more leeway to shoot bad guys than cops do. Also shows how our justifiable homicides are going up (this is a good thing).
