re: Romney Foreign Polilcy

quote:

How is it possibly hypocritical to be President, start a war, but to never have served in the military??? Will civilian Presidents never be able to start a war without being hypocrites?

And can you not see how protesting in support of a war and then actively avoiding service in said war isn't actually hypocritical???

To further your point, unless Obama chose to make a career in the military, it would have been virtually impossible for him to have served in combat because of when he was born. He was 14 when Vietnam ended, and he was 29 when Desert Storm started.

"Can't" and "not having to" aren't the same.

That's a hell of a good speech! The words "hope, is not a strategy", comes to mind.

The man looks like he's got what it takes to turn this thing around.

So if you don't have to serve in a war you can't support it?

So as someone has stated on this board before, this would mean that if you support tax hikes you should not be allowed to use any deductions at all on your tax return. Would you support this?

Yes, you can. I happen to think it's shitty as frick.

You have people being forced to go that don't want to, and you have other people that are perfectly capable of going, get out of it, and then act in support of the war. What the hell is that shit?

Mitt isn't perfect, but this is a stupid line of attack from Obama supporters.
If you don't like Mitt you like Obama? The irony lies in the fact that if you like Mitt you should like Obama.

Romney supported the war
Romney picketed against anti-war protestors
Romney's turn came up
Romney hid in France

Fine, so you would be against those who want tax increase yet use tax deductions?

If you support a war, you shouldn't actively avoid serving in it. It's one thing to not have your number come up in the lottery. It's a whole other thing to have your number removed from the lottery so that it can't come up. I also put Vietnam-era national guardsmen in the same boat with deferers. Here's how Dan Quayle put it on Meet The Press:

"Obviously, if you join the National Guard, you have less of a chance of going to Vietnam. I mean, it goes without saying."

Give credit to Quayle for admitting why he joined the national guard.

MItt Romney's spending plan:

It is to return to the budget baseline established by Secretary Robert Gates in 2010, with the goal of setting core defense spending — meaning funds devoted to the fundamental military components of personnel, operations and maintenance, procurement, and research and development — at a floor of 4 percent of GDP.

I think it's hypocritical for people who have no tax liability to support higher taxes.

...the man wants to increase defense spending by trillions, add over 100,000 new troops, and is destined for war.

I confess, without shame, that I am sick and tired of [war] — its glory is all moonshine; even success the most brilliant is over dead and mangled bodies, with the anguish and lamentations of distant families, appealing to me for sons, husbands, and fathers ... it is only those who have never heard a shot, never heard the shriek and groans of the wounded and lacerated ... that cry aloud for more blood, more vengeance, more desolation.

War

Is

Hell
