Driving to Gatorland?

Who has made the drive and how long take you (in relation to the 7-1/2 H mapquest).
Would be better stopping Tallahassee to break up the long drive (considering now a day game)?
Have always flew to Jville but flights got too expensive!
TIA

I made it back in 2010. Worst drive in the SEC IMO. You just keep on thinking you are almost there, only to look at the GPS and say "shite, 4 more hours to go"

it sucks, i wouldnt do it. when you get there its even more miserable than the drive

From NOLA, it would take around 8, I added about an hour in case there are any delays in Mobile or Pensacola.
If you can make it to DeFuniak Springs, that would break up the drive, there's not much to do there though. I think there's a Super WalMart there so you could go get some beer and just chill in the hotel room.
Be on the lookout in Gainesville though. That place sucks. The fans are a different degree of jerk (trying to be nice here) but it's the cops that will go out of their way to ruin your trip. No, I'm not exaggerating. DO NOT have your drink in a bottle or a can, put it in a solo cup. Also watch where you park. They'll tow your car in a heartbeat.
Don't go off campus with a drink either.
Hope that helps and be careful, man.

That makes since. But it's still a good 3 hours out from Gainesville. You'd have to get up fairly early to go to the game, but being 3 hours closer to home is a big plus. We stayed in Lake City last time.

I was going to suggest that too but opted for DeFuniak Springs.
Gainesville is about an hour or so from Lake City. It's right where I-10 and I-75 meet.

What a shitty road trip. Sounds like you have boring car mates.

Hell, I've made drives to Disney in one day with no problems and that's good bit past Gainsville. I don't see you having any problems.
Depending on what kind of vehicle you're going in and who's going with you, you might want to leave at night where you can do most of the trip with less traffic and cooler weather. If there are a couple of you who drive you can take turns sleeping.

Thanks
Was thinking this too, so basically 4-1/2 to 5 to Tallahasee, 2 -1/2 to 3 to Gville. Mapquest shows only 55m from Lake City though.
Yeah, I've been several times and am hip to the drinking scene with cops and fans, luckily never had a problem there.

I'll be driving there. We have a hotel room Friday and Saturday night in Tallahassee. Driving up and spending the day in Tallahasse on Friday and waking up STUPID early for the game Sat.
Best part is, 3 hours closer to home.

Stay in Panama City. Not too far off track and there's plenty to do.

It was fun until we passed Pensacola and my buddies asked, "so how much further, 2 hours?", Only for me to reply with, "nope 5 and a half". They were pissed and fell asleep.

Ugh...the "Are we there yets?"
Almost as bad as the backseat drivers.

You're right. I couldn't remember if it was an hour or so or 2 hours.
I tried to put drive that out of my memory.

I'm in Gainesville. It's funny, UF and LSU fans feel exactly the same way about each other. Seriously, all the stories we share have a mirror version replacing the douche UF fan with a douche LSU fan.
The alcohol laws are a legitimate criticism, though. Holy frick the alcohol laws here suck.
