Pistol Pete lived in Covington when I was at St. Paul's in the late 1980's. He would come to our basketball practices and run drills with us and stay after and play pick-up games. We were seniors in high school playing ball with Pistol Pete in 1986-1987. It all came to a terrible end after his very very premature death. He was in his forties at the time and was still amazing to watch on a basketball court. A great memory from high school.

Winner!

Here's 2 honorable mentions:
In the late '70's John Garlington was good friends with my HS basket ball coach and would work out with us during basketball practice. For you young folks who don't know who John Garlington is, he was an All-American in the late '60's.

Charlie Hennigan would come to my grandparent's house and then later to our house on some holidays. He was raised down the street from my dad's parents in Minden. He went to LSU on a track scholarship and was a member of the 1954 SEC Conference Champion Mile-Relay Team. He transferred to NSU at the end of his freshmen year because they wouldn't let him play football. He later went on to the AFL and was a record setting receiver. It was cool for a young kid to visit with an AFL star.
