How pathetic is the rule that the clock restarts after a false start/hold?

It is the stupidest thing I have ever seen in my life. All a team has to do is be up in the 4th quarter with the ball. They can false start, run 40 seconds off the clock, false start, run another 40 seconds.

No coaches do it because it would be bush league or they are too stupid to figure it out, but still...... how can a rule be that unfathomably bad? What a screw up by the NCAA.

I have always thought this as well, but didn't know if that is actually the rule or if something happens to make the clock stop after a second one or not

Yes it's dumb. Coaches don't know the rules though, so that's why you don't see it. It should be treated the same as a delay of game penalty, at least under 2 minutes anyway.

I thought the runoff is only if your team is behind with the clock running under 2 min ... specifically for this reason

I believe the officials have the authority to stop the clock if they deem the foul to be intentionally manipulative.
