So with Notre Dame becoming the 15th member of the ACC (football will happen eventually), does the ACC go after a 16th member? UConn? What affect does this have on other conferences? With the ACC now having a 50 million dollar buyout, i dont suspect any member leaving the ACC anytime soon, so if we are getting to 16 team superconferences, how do we get there? This move just changed the whole plan IMO. Who would the SEC and B1G go after to get to 16? Its not nearly as easy now with the Big 12 more secure! Is this even possible now? Will we see 16 team conferences or is this just the ACC trying to regain basketball elite status? Just curious, what are your thoughts?

Id expect UConn to be the 16th ACC team. The superconference thing is on permanent hold I believe, there arent enough decent additions to bring the B1G, Big XII, SEC, and PAC12 up to 16.

I was reading the shaggybevo thread on the ND move and Texas fans seem to think that conference is solid until the end of its TV deal.

Pretty hard to shop around when you've signed a GoR for 13 years.

IF the Big XII folds, then yeah we will get 16 team super-conferences. Thats a big IF, and its the only way itll ever happen.

Then, it's a free for all. I think OU and Okie State end up in the SEC

no way the SEC takes two teams from Oklahoma

If the alternative is Louisville and ECU, you bet your arse the SEC would take both OU and Okie St.

If the Big XII desolved, I would assume both UT and OU would end up in the PAC12, SEC would probably pull TCU and WVU to make it 16.

Copy and pasted from a post from Rocket.....the ACC commish says:

"There is no need to add a 16th team to the league...it is illogical...causes imbalance in football"

Bet texas goes independent when all said and done. They have the money and will eventually get their network going.

Why would the current SEC schools give away $$$?
If the Oklahoma schools would have made the SEC teams money they would have taken them last year. The TV market in OK isn't big enough to off set 2 extra shares of the current SEC TV money.

I actually think that the Big 12 is in a better situation NOW then they were a few years ago. They are currently at 10 teams and could expand very easily by adding Boise St, Louisville, Cincinnati, BYU, Houston and SMU. This would expand the footprint of the league and markets!

New Big 12:

NORTH:

West Virginia
Boise St
Louisville
Cincinnati
Kansas
Kansas St
Iowa St
BYU

SOUTH:

Texas
Texas Tech
Oklahoma
Oklahoma St
Baylor
TCU
SMU
Houston

I think that conference would be pretty competitive! A conference like that is very possible. The Big East is dead!

not everything takes place in a vacuum. the sec took two teams it felt would make them the most money, if expansion was to take place again, the sec would do the same once again. that option MIGHT be taking Oklahoma (who would bring along little brother). that option might be taking 2 other teams.

to say it wouldnt happen at all is asinine.

for sure.

PAC, BigXII, B1G, SEC, ACC would be your 5 conferences, but the B1G and PAC would have trouble getting to 16.
There arent 4 teams with academics to get into the PAC without the BigXII going under (PAC would need UT and OU + 2 teams)

i know the TV contracts are huge nowadays, but are they big enough to offset the financial value of adding another school to some of these conferences?

SEC for example. who could the SEC add at this point, not from the the ACC, BIG10, BIG12, and PAC12, that would make it a financial plus?

Absolutely agree! Id even say the SEC would have a tougher time expanding now....tougher, not impossible but tougher. The ACC buyout is now 50 million! This move is a big to the B1G if 16 team conferences is where this is headed. I have no idea who the B1G could steal? Cincy? Louisville? Rutgers? Iowa St? bleh!

SEC will push for UNC and UVA (or Maryland) in the next 2-3 years.

I think a few conferences will be courting BYU, but besides that I do not see any major changes in the foreseeable future.

ACC: happy
B1G: happy
SEC: happy
Pac12: happy
Big12: ? (seems content with new Tv deal)

50 million dollars says you're wrong! The ACC just solidified their conference for the next 20-30 years! No school is paying 50 million to leave the ACC...not happening.

What about the Big East? I could see a Big East/CUSA/MWC/WAC merger in the future. IMO thats where we could see the biggest change in college football.
