If my numbers are right...here are Mett's numbers in the 2nd half

3/4 66 yards TD

4 passes in 2 quarters. What a way to break in our QB. I'll probably get crucified for bitching after a 41-3 win but I want Mett to be settled in and comfortable by the time we start playing SEC teams. Giving him 4 passes in a half isn't going to do that.

Because at some point you are going to have to throw it, to win a game. You perfect it now, when you can. It's obvious the WR's can use the experience.

I doubt we we will see LSU air it out though until it's totally necessary. It's ok, but it would be fun to watch.

Gotta catch it first.

It's our identity, accept it, love it.

Miles is painfully conservative. He wants to do just enough to keep the offense moving, throw only when it's necessary and sit down on a comfortable lead.

After seeing Tyler Wilson get lit up by ULM and Mett by NT Im glad he is conservative in middle of 3rd quarter. It's a long season and I think it's smart to get out of these games by chewing up the clock.

I do agree with a lot of the article. Good manners be damned, throw the ball, give Mett reps so that when it counts he can handle it because hes done it before, albeit with less at stake.

Look I bitched last week but not tonight. It was much more balanced on a night that was hard as hell to throw. That wind was whipping. Truly a great game by Mettenberger and I can't complain tonight about the mix of pass and run with more intermediate routes.

This This This. We know we can run the ball against UNT and Washington Les. Our line is vastly superior than theirs. We should be able to run on them.

Mettenberger has attempted just 55 passes playing major college football. There will come a time when the run game isn't working. I don't want Mett to feel uncomfortable because he's been grooming his handoff.

ETA: Miles always wants to run the ball, kill the clock and win comfortably while not running up the score on his opponent. My point is, we have a good but inexperienced QB. Why not get him those throws when we're playing a team were better than? And the WR's obviously have accumulated rust over the last 3 years.

Not a whole lot to gripe about tonight, except the drops and not much you can do about that. Good all around game, I thought.

This was one of those games LSU could have easily scored 60 or more points

Uggghhh!!! We threw it enough in the first half. Threw it when we didn't even need too. Hell my biggest complaint is they left the starters in to long.

Agreed. I was happy with the way we played tonight. I just wish we would have let Mett throw more than just 4 times in the 2nd half. Practice makes perfect.

After hitting 17 of 18 WR's in the hands, how many more does he need to hit to become comfortable? At what point did he not look confident and comfortable?

Mett was awesome. Our receivers will get used to getting the ball thrown to them. They're too talented not to. We became more balanced and I believe we will improve that balance as the season moves on. Compared to last week (bubble screens) I am ecstatic. We look ready to compete with ANYBODY. With all due respect to JL, It's so great to have a QB of this caliber.

we're going to outmatch everybody we play for the first like 6 games of the season

by the time he'll need to throw, he'll be ready to throw. Idaho, Auburn, and Towson are the next 3 games. By the time he's playing @Florida he'll have 5 games worth of reps under his belt..if he ain't ready by then he may never be.

After watching a few of these teams play this year, I would venture to say we REALLY only HAVE to throw it against one of those teams.

Yes, but you have to develop that passing game throughout the season. You can't just wake up in November and start throwing it.

Watch what Alabama did last year.

They understood that they would need a passing game to win the NC. And they developed it all year.

We don't need to throw the ball 30 - 40 times a game.

But one day you might.

Why not practice that shite against...Idaho?

I'm calling it 4 drops. That first one to OBJ wasn't a drop even though the pass was right in his hands. The defender timed the hit perfectly. That's not on the receiver.

Just like Saban. Hmmm? The best two teams in college football have "painfully conservative" coaches. I say again, hmmm?

Nov 3. Our receivers need the reps more than Mett.
