A little bit of positivity

Man am I excited for this Saturday.
Lot of things to be excited about for this season. Thought I'd bring some positivity to the site.
Just a few things I've noticed after watching the games and highlights a couple times..
JC Copeland.. Never watched the fullback position like I've watched him.. He loves to hit people. And he is actually very crafty with the ball in his hands.. Instead of trucking someone he makes a cut out for a 10 yard gain..
OBJ.. Most dangerous player on our team with the ball in his hands. He is scary. Hoping to see us develop him and the offense past the bubble screen.
Landry.. Last year was a hitting machine. Comes in and makes some big time catches in his first game.. By far the best hands on the team. Biggest thing I noticed was he was more fired up after the big block for Hilliard then he was for the catches.. True teammate right there.
Freak.. I think if he stays healthy to be potentially the best defensive player on this team. And with Mingo, Montgomery, and Reid that says a lot. He was a force in game 1.
Hilliard.. Best overall running back we've had since Ally Broussard before injury. Has great foot work, great speed.
And the biggest thing I noticed was offensive play calling. We actually did plays to set things up. Bubble Screen into the pump fake deep pass to Shep.
For a few of the things to see improvement on..
Mett looked lazy in some aspects of the game, but overall had a good game. He took a big hit and came back in and led us down the field.
Offensive Line had some trouble blocking in the passing game.
Young LBs need more time with Moffitt. But they are going to be absolute studs.
Take out the stupid penalties. 2 penalties cost us touchdowns.. A block in the back after OBJ was already by. And 3 lineman blocking downfield on a pass.

Copeland may be my favorite player to watch on offense. He knocks heads with defenders.

Idk which play I liked more from him in the game..
When he lead blocks for Blue and drives the LB like 25 yards back.
Or when he gets the handoff and makes a great cut out, then cuts back in on the LB.
Monster Fullback

look forward to him getting a real workload this season
his speed is really deceptive for his size, everytime i see him try to go for the corner i think "someone is gonna catch him" and then he still makes it
i know against faster SEC defenses this will be hard for him, but its still impressive to see

This one for me. He does that little juke move in between two defenders then carries them 5 more yards. It was awesome.

i wonder if he ever thought coming out of high school as a D End that he would be carrying the ball and juking out defenders in a couple years

The LSU OLine looked very dominant in the Running Game.. But in the Passing Game they struggled at times.
As stated on the bubble deep pass to Shep.. We had 3 Lineman Blocking downfield. Flag. No Touchdown.
Plenty of times Mett had people in his face close to the snap.
ESPN and everyone says we have NFL Round 1 Lineman in Hurst and Faulk. Add in Collins the #1 OT out of his class. Our Pass Blocking could have looked better.

I still remember him abusing one of the best athletes in the nation last year Georgia CB Brandon Boykin.. It didn't even look fair
Give him a offseason and he looks even better then last year.
I think if he got the carries Lattimore got at SC he'd be considered for Heisman talk. But I like Les Miles not running the running backs into the ground.

I think our LB class for once is actually very talented..
Kevin Minter loves to attack.
Debo Jones is fast, just needs to put on some weight.
Alexander should be a monster in a couple years.
And Barrow on the crack block on OBJ's Punt Return hurt just watching it. He killed a dude.

I loved Quinn Johnson - as a blocker, he had few peers at the FB position in LSU history. However, Copeland brings such a dangerous combination of size, speed and football smarts that is actually a little frightening. He was starting to show a lot of that last year, at least in a blocking role. If the UNT game is any indication of his improvement as a ball carrier - it's possible that, in addition to destroying fools at the goalline ala Quinn Johnson, he could get 25 to 30 carries over the season for well over 100 yards - he's already 1/3 of the way there on yardage.
When is the last time a true fullback (and Hester/Hilliard were both hybrids) looked as impressive as Copeland did Saturday? Heck he looked better carrying the ball than the senior version of Justin Vincent (I'm poking a little fun at JV, but it is supposed to more of a compliment to Copeland than a slam against Vincent).
So far, I'm impressed with Blue, Hilliard and Copeland running the ball (and Ford did not look bad with limited carries).

One of the biggest things that stood out to me about Copeland was last years Auburn game. He took over that game to the point of Auburn not wanting to see him anymore.. Just falling down or letting Copeland by.

Copeland is my favorite player on Offense after game 1 and I hope he continues to get carries against the tougher competition.
edit: Love him on the fake pitch misdirection handoff.
