Wash with dawn(seriously). If the dog can't lick the spot, put some kind of cortizone cream on it. Only if they can't lick it though.

What DSS said. Also Gold Bond is safe if it's out of reach to lick, just to relieve some of the itching.

Liquid sulfate.....I believe that's what I used last time my GR had it. I bought it at Walmart. When I get home I'll check and get back here. It worked wonders

Brought my lab to the Vet because she had a bald spot near her tail, the Vet recomended Omega-3 fatty acids supplements for her skin.

He's got several of these on his back. Is this even a hot spot?

I've been giving fish oil supplements to my Boykin to help with his allergies and hair falling out, and have seen some pretty good results so far

Mainly on his back. He really doesn't scratch a lot but he is a toe nail chewing and foot licking mofo.

Not a hot spot, Hot spots are usually very red and hair is wet and matted due to discharge from inflammed skin. Are there multiple spots? Could be nothing but could be allergy, skin mites, or even ringworm. If is biting and licking at feet often times it is a environmental allery. Try giving benadryl (1mg per pound - i.e 50lb dog gets 50 mg) up to 3 times daily. Doesnt appear to be an infection in picture. How old is the dog? On flea prevention?

He's on Prednisolone and Amox/clav as well as flea meds. I forget which one but we apply to his back once a month. I'll post a pic of his belly in the morning.

ETA: he's 2

Not a flea allergy either. Damn sure not a damn hot spot to which ever of you wing nuts said it was after I said it wasn't.

Used to see a lot of dogs with this and I can't remember ever putting a solid diagnosis on it. That means we treated it symptomatically, which is what you're doing. Doesn't look fungal. Might just be one of them things.

Wait, you're applying cream/ointment to the spots? If so, stop. Is he kenneled? Chewing at his feet and nails may be an allergy and may be anxiety.

Kenneled? He lives in the house with us. Spoiled rotten, my wife and daughter dote on him like a baby. I bought him to hunt wild hogs with but they ruined those plans.

I feel ya! My squirrel dog likes her special pillow!

No cream/lotion. I'd try cortisone shot.

OK, this sounds stupid, but "dirt allergy" just popped in my head. Let me sort this out and I'll get back to you.
