The old rules allowed you to play in a few games, then choose to reshirt. The current rules do not allow you to take any snaps, then choose to redshirt UNLESS there is an injury. If you play in less than 30% of the games and suffer a season ending injury you can then MEDICAL reshirt for the year.

That rule changed FOURTEEN years ago ! This comes up every darn season, as a previous poster said.
