Unless your family and friends are all complete assholes, I'm gonna guess that noone has to try too hard around here to get a little help. SELA has some pretty decent people that are usually more than willing to help out in situations like this.
ETA: There are also some whiney bitches in SELA too, obviously

This is my point. I washed clothes for people after Katrina in BR because we had a generator. I have a lot of family and friends on the south shore, and I always open my home to them during these situations.

People complaining about not having the money for generators, I'm willing to bet someone they know, be it a family member of friend, has one and has offered to let them come stay.
