Sophomore Bryan Bennett, who lost the battle to start at quarterback for the Ducks this season, did not practice Tuesday and was meeting with Chip Kelly this afternoon about his future, after a source indicated Bennett had elected to transfer.

If true this decision could be huge for the Ducks as they have no one behind Mariota who's ready to play the QB position for the Ducks. The Ducks have had injuries before at the QB position for the style of offense they play. With Mariota or Bennett running the show it was assumed we would see more QB keepers than with DT.

Better hope he stays until the season is over...If not teams will know you have an incompetent back up QB and will go for blood when they hit your starting QB.

Then you'll lose a lot of games.

Reports are he was saying goodbye to people in the parking lot.

It certainly doesn't help. Although, Chip can do what he did two years ago and not run the QB as much. They did that to protect BB's redshirt. This definitely makes the RB spot have to step up and stay healthy. Word is true freshman Byron Marshall is doing well and should see playing time to keep Barner fresh and allow DAT to play the WR/Tazr spot more frequently.

I wouldn't say a lot of games as the defense will keep them in most but it certainly changes possible expectations on the season.

If so I hope he picks a PAC 12 school so the Ducks can put him on his back a bit.

Can someone explain to me why Derron Thomas left Oregon?

Bennett could start at a lot of schools. He has amazing talent as a runner and thrower. Mariota is just better. If I was a school in need of a QB, I'd definitely go after Bryan.

Rumors are he knew he may not be this years starter. As in the writing was on the wall that either Mariota or Bennett could jump him.

He also had rosenhaus (sp?) as an agent so who knows.

Don't think he can go to a PAC12, prob go DIV II so he can play right away. Will be hard though missed all of camp and practice.

has he redshirted yet

At this point in time I see him burning a year and finding a spot he knows he'll end up being the starter. He has redshirted. I guess he can go fcs and then transfer but how many schools have an opening at QB right now with the season about to start. If I were him I'd try an stick it out and graduate by next summer and transfer into a masters program not offered at Oregon. If he wastes a year it might as well be on a possible title team.

Eta....he can go to a PAC 12 school, he'll have to sit a year though. If he goes FCS is there a place he can go play right now, at this time of the year? Sounds like he will be wasting a year regardless. Might as well be at a D1 school where he can start learning that teams offense so he can start next year and be more prepared.

The radio said something about how he cannot go to a PAC12 school (have no idea if that is true or not), think you are right though might as well go to a bigger school if he has to sit out a year anyway and play next year.

I wonder if he has already contacted any schools and is leaving Oregon because they have an opening for him.

Chip Kelly screws Bennett over by not naming a starter in the spring. Bennett screws Kelly over 4 days before kickoff.

I'm sure he has. I'm very curious to see where he'll go. If he's willing to sit Zona would be a good spot for him.

I guess he's staying, Chip must've had one hell of a talk with him.

IMO it's dumb to name a starter in the spring unless you obviously have no competition behind the starter. Who's to say Mariota doesn't transfer after hearing he doesn't get to compete for the job? Especially after the way he played in the spring game.

Where'd you hear this? If so, Uncle Phil stepped in.

Hell, if he's gonna lose a year it might as well be at Oregon. Graduate and transfer with two years of eligibility left.

Jude, Fentress and Moseley tweeted that he's most likely staying now.

If he goes to a PAC 12 school he has to sit 2 years per conference rules.
