My saw is acting up. I can get it to start and run for about 10 seconds but it then starts to sputter and dies. Plug and air filter are OK. Any thoughts? It's a Poulan Pro 42cc. Thanks!

Trash in carb or possibly a cracked fuel line

There your first problem...
j/j...probably old or bad gas, drain tank, pull apart carb...clean all parts and pieces with carb clearner, reassemble put in fresh gas/oil mix and get to work.
Ethanol is a bitch

I really hate to knock a man's equipment, but a butter knife would be more useful than a poulan. You have bad gas, or bad fuel line, or dirty carbs. It's not worth fixing. Get a Husqvarna or Stihl and never look back. And that's the God honest truth.. I will never ever own another Poulan!!!

dump out gas/oil mix, pourin about 2 oz of lacquer thinner. pull tuil it starts then run about 15-20 seconds. stop, then dump out remaining lacquer thinner and put gas/oil mix back in. should clean out gunk/residue from system.
