Payne's a pretty smart guy. I'm pretty sure he realized when he moved into the Chairman's position, that it was when, not if regarding women members.
As the article stated AN wasn't rushed into it. They did it at their pace. Dr. Rice will be a welcome addition to the club. She's an avid golfer. I'm sure the other woman is also.

Yea it is quite odd that they cave now. It's even more odd that Rice was one of the first women in.

I'm turning in my jacket. I can't take this.

Didn't know that. Apparently, it makes the decision to admit her less odd then. I knew she was huge on football, but didn't know about golf.

I'm not sure they did cave. I'm thinking they waited and did it on their own terms and not because Martha Burke said so. At least I hope that's the case.

Sweet, another USC alum as an Augusta member.

I wonder what that worthless lib bitch will have to protest about now...I hope she realizes what a total waste of oxygen her life is...Her decomposing corpse would make nice fertilizer for one of the mounds around a green.

I am a woman you idiot. I don't like getting things because some dyke protests about it. It takes away the level of achievement.
dumbass.

Oh, cool. You're a sad, self-loathing woman, then. Awesome.
And I seriously doubt that what Martha Burke did a decade ago with a different chairman caused Augusta National to "cave".
What is more likely is that many of the older members, who are the most resistant to change, are no longer as influential, and they had a few applicants from very qualified women who can contribute to the club.
It's not like they let just anyone in there.
Again, they didn't just let anyone in. If anything, you're downplaying these two women's achievements. I would venture to say that Rice's achievements alone trump those of a lot of the male applicants to Augusta National.

...nothing to indicate they "caved" to anyone. If they had they could have made the announcement during the Masters and reaped a ton of publicity or approved membership years ago. Instead, they moved at their own pace and made the decision in a deliberate manner. The 2 women appear to be just as qualified for membership as any other member or applicant.
What is so funny are the people whining about the decision. It is really none of their business.
