So is it just me, or does it seem to y'all also that they (HBO and the actors/creators of the show) are actively trying to make us forget about the books all together?

I'm basing this solely off the fact that they didn't mention the books not once during the 15min preview of Season 5.

It seems to me that they are preparing the viewers and bookreaders alike for the reality of the show surpassing the books.

If this is the case it gives me a huge case of the sads..

I think people are making way too much of the shows pacing.
Season 3 covered the end of clash and ended at less than the halfway point of storm.
Season 4 could very easily be just covering the end of storms with a pinch of feast, which is just to hit on all the major pov's.
They will obviously be taking a boiled leather approach to feast and dance.
I seriously doubt they will exclude the iron islands arc and subsequent kingsmoot. I could very easily see them slow playing the combined feast and dance material into 3 seasons, making it so that any winds material wont ve included until season 8.
Any speculation on how many seasons there will be is just that. As long people are still watching hbo will keep making them.
These books and the show are so well loved that people get very passionate about them, but passionate people are rarely logical about their passions.
I fully believe that AGoT the show will go for 10 seasons, and that the only book in danger of getting passed by the show is ADoS.
