If you notice in the very first Season 1 preview (the Iron Throne one), a pair of bird wings are stretched out behind the Iron Throne; I definitely think there's some significance there that we have yet to know about from the books. Very clever of D&D since they already know the endgame. Another observation is that Jon Snow is the only "Stark child" sitting on the throne in the preview and that Ghost is sitting right next to him on the ground. And when they show him, Ned's voice says "You may not have my name but you have my blood"
