I'd say it's possible. I just tend to think it's a very small circle (likely just Ned, Howland, and Wylla) for it to have been under wraps for this long.

Benjen suddenly joining the Night's Watch is the only thing that makes me think he knows. He is the younger brother, I know he wasn't next in line, of the Warden of the North. He could have married very well and lived his life out in one of the most prominent houses in the North. But he chose to join a bunch of murderous thieves without explanation. lady brought up a good point with what he told Jon. Not knowing what you are giving up can certainly mean more than what we all thought. Who is Benjen to lecture him on this? He never had children either, so he doesn't know what he gave up either.

Exactly my point . There has to be more about Benjen joining the NW than we know, and like I said, Benjen was very close to Lyanna growing up. He was the Stark in Winterfell during Robert's Rebellion but he did go to the Tourney of Harrenhal, where the Lyanna-Rhaegar relationship 'began'.

And I know there's a theory about why the Starks always have someone go to the Wall, but I don't think Ned ever said anything about sending Bran or Rickon to the Wall when they're older. Jon went, but Jon went moreso because he figured that as a bastard that he wouldn't inherit or be able to do much; plus he had to deal with Catelyn's cruel looks and overall bitchiness/coldness, which made him even feel worse about being a bastard. Jon also would've deserted if it weren't for Sam and his friends; and even thought Qhorin told him to go on a mission, eat with them, become a Wildling, etc. you have to admit that Jon enjoyed fricking Ygritte, no doubt about that.

I personally think that Jon should've waited to go to the Watch, like Benjen had recommended; wait until he was around 18 or so to go rather than 14/barely 15.
