Somehow, the message is delivered and all the northmen know Robb's intentions, and instead of telling Stannis or Bolton, they keep it under wraps and let Stannis and Bolton beat each other up and weaken their forces. And THEN, the Northmen, at full strength, wipe out the victor of Bolton vs Stannis and make Snow the king.
