MANCE=ARTHUR DAYNE

Excellent theory that I had not heard before. Certainly Howland Reed was not killed at the TOJ. Probably Sir Arthur Dayne was killed there, by Howland Reed. Maybe Howland devised the plan to allow all of them live. Dayne would need to be disguised for a long while.

After time, memories fade, looks change. Who expects to come across a dead man, on or north of the wall?

Like I said, skirpnasty came up with it, but I've definitely bought in all the way.

I agree that Howland has to be alive.

I just think once Ned realized that R did not kidnap and rape L, and Dayne realized Ned wasn't going to harm JS but protect him, they'd have no reason to fight each other.

Ned knew Robert had to think they were dead though, because he couldn't explain JS to Robert.

Sending Dayne to The Wall would have made all the sense in the world. And Dayne would be close enough to make sure JS was truly being protected.

It just makes too much sense. Ned's respect for Dayne and his returning to Starfall and Ashara disappearing right after are too coincidental.

And Hugo, the timelines don't match up for Ned to be the father of Edric.

We're told Edric is only 12 in GoT. Ned was there years before.

I'm still not sure how exactly Edric fits in, because we aren't even told who his mother or father are, but I just think the fact that the Daynes named him Edric and nickname him Ned shows a close bond between the houses.

That wouldn't be the case if Ned killed the Sword of the Morning.

Can't wait to see that badass wielding Dawn against the Others.
