Varys made no effort to stop Tyrion. He wanted Tyrion to kill Tywin. I think Varys was planning on killing Tywin off soon anyway, and having Tyrion do it was just gravy for him.

Don't give Varys too much credit in the way of controlling events. What makes him so dangerous is his ability to adapt fluid-like in a heartbeat.
I have no doubt he had numerous exit strategies for his retreat from K's L, but I seriously doubt he intended to have himself disappear simultaneously with Tyrion, and the Black Cell jailer.
Doesn't sound like a plan he would make at all.
