I don't see why this would happen since there are no Weirwoods' south of the North right?
Lyanna was around the Isle of Faces when she was crowned Queen of Love and Beauty by Rhaegar. Rhaegar personally searched for the Knight of the Laughing Tree, who many believe could be Lyanna Stark. He may have actually found her and wed her on the Isle of Faces, long shot I know, where Bran will be able to see them. He can get word that Jon is her son from Eddard praying to a weirwood in Winterfell later down the road and just putting the history together.

Good question about the Weirwoods. The Andals wasted most of them, but not sure if all in the South...any evidence of them seen in Dorne at all?
I have an idea:
The more I think about it, Martin has pulled the hidden ID trick too many times if even half of our guesses are correct - most I hope turn out to be red herrings, but there's a shitload. How bout we try to count em up...include even the crackpot ones, just for shits and giggles...then we can rank them in terms of likelihood?
I'll start. We'll put the known, the obvious or most-supported near the top, crackheadpot ones at the bottom. Or 3 categories:
I. It is known (proven)
II. It is supported (popular theories here)
III. Crackstreet Gossip
I.
- Rattleshirt (re-animated)= Mance
- Catelyn Stark (re-animated) = Lady Stoneheart
II.
- R+L=J
- Gregor Clegane (re-animated) = Robert Strong
- TKotLT = Lyanna Stark
- Ashara Dayne is Septa Lemore
- Varys = Blackfyre
III.
- Tyrion = Targ (TMK + JL= Imp)
- Dayne = Mance
- CotF = The Others
- Jojen Reed = Howland Reed
- Syrio = Jaqen H'ghar
- The sailors wife = tyrions ex
- Darkstar = Real Aegon
