And I still think that if the Others are NOT bastardized Greenseers/Children of the Forest themselves, they are the creation of GSs/TCotF.
If the former, similar to what happened to Elves becoming Orcs in TLotR...they were driven further and further North as Westeros was taken out from under them and had to use magic to adapt or perish...magic tainted with anger and fear, inducing horrific side effects and their hatred of the invading humans driving not only the will to survive, but to eliminate the virus-like species from the continent altogether...to return to the 'proper' order of things...
if the latter, maybe a "Super Soldier" or last-ditch attempt to fight off the Andals (after they invaded, ignoring the treaty made with The First Men)finding a way to re-animate the humans' own dead to rise against them...only they also re-animated their own dead, who turned out to be different beings altogether..
It wouldn't be the first time their magic didn't work out like they wanted it to (ie, The Neck/ destruction of the Arm of Dorne)
